How to Use Craft Mockups in Procreate

A craft mockup is an excellent way of showcasing your designs in a realistic view on images without the need for complex software. Mockups give you the freedom to use your designs on several objects quickly and easily, saving you precious time. You can use your craft mockups on the go with just an iPad and Procreate.

In this tutorial, we’re going to show you how to use craft mockups in Procreate. All designs used in this tutorial are from the Huge SVG Bundle and PNG ready to add to your mockups.

Let’s get started by viewing the mockup and importing it to Procreate. Tap on the “Share” icon in the top right cornerand select Procreate from the list.We want to keep the original dimensions and quality of the craft mockup by importing the image into Procreate. Open the Procreate app and you will see your mockup automatically imported into your gallery.

Using a Shirt Mockup in Procreate

You can showcase your designs on clothing mockups like this Bella Canvas Mockup. The easiest craft mockups to work with have a flat surface you can place your design on with minimal editing. Let’s have a look at how to place a design and edit it to show the textures of the shirt through the design.

Step 1 - Add your design

In Procreate open the mockup image you imported. Tap on the wrench icon “Actions” in the top left corner of your toolbar.

In the Actions panel, select “Add” and choose the location your design is saved at. We saved our design in files so we chose “Insert a file”.

Step 2 - Select your design

Locate the design you want to use. In the Huge SVG Bundle, we’re going to go to inspirational quotes and select “The only person you should” PNG design… tap on it and it will automatically bring it into Procreate for you.

Step 3 - Resize your design

We need to reposition and resize our design so that it fits on our shirt mockup. Make sure “Uniform” is selected at the bottom to proportionally resize the design. Press and hold on to the blue dots or by pinching inwards with your fingers to make it smaller or bigger and move your design into place. Tap the “transformation” mouse pointer icon when you are done.

Step 4 - Color your design (Optional)

This step is optional if you want to add color to a design. We’re going to use our mockup image for color inspiration. We are going to press and hold with a finger onto a part of the image, you will see a color selector showing around the area that you’ve selected.

If you lift your finger you will see the color has been chosen in our color circle in the top right-hand corner. We are simply going to take our finger press on the color circle in the right-hand corner and drag it onto our design which will automatically color in an area of our design.

Step 5 - Adjusting the layer

To show the texture of your shirt on the design we’re going to go into the layers panel (stacked squares) on the top right side. On our design layer, we’re going to tap on the “N” to see our blend modes. Scroll down the list and select “Hard Light”.

Using the Warp Tool for Mockups

Craft mockups that use objects with a curved surface take a few extra adjustments with the warp tool to give your design a realistic look. We will use this Coffee Mug Mockup to give you an easy example to add a curved look to our design.

Step 1 - Add your design

Open your mockup in Procreate. Tap on the wrench icon (Actions) at the top left in your toolbar. Tap on “Add” and select where your design is saved. Our design is saved in our files so we chose “Insert from file”.

Step 2 - Select your design

Locate and select the design that you want to use. In the Huge SVG Bundle, we’re going to go to the Unicorn Bundle PNG folder and select “Unicorn stay magical”. Once imported, resize your design following the same steps as before. Ensure that the sides of your design go a little past the mug (See image below).

Step 3 - Use Warp Transformation

Enable warp transformation and select “Advanced mesh”. Starting at the corners press and hold on to the blue dots and move them to the edges of the mug. Now to the same for the rest of your outer blue dots, following the shape of the mug.

Step 4 - Adjust the size

Select “Uniform” transform again at the bottom and scale down your design a bit so that the design isn’t against the edges of the mug.

Tap the “transformation” mouse pointer icon when you are done.

Export and Save Your Mockup as an Image

To save your edited mockup as an image, tap on the “Actions” wrench icon on the top left of your toolbar. Tap on “Share” and select the format you want your image to be. We select “JPEG” as our image format.

Additional share options will pop up. Select where you want to share/save your image too. We select “Save image” this will save your craft mockup in your photos.
