Shimmer and shine with today's step-by-step tutorial on how to draw a diamond. Diamonds are among the most beautiful and valuable gems in the world, and learning to create them will be a fun experience. This drawing guide will show you how to create a stunning diamond drawing that sparkles and shines with intricate details, from sketches to adding glitter effects.

To follow along with this drawing guide, you can use any medium you have. Whether you are a painter or digital artist, you can join in on the drawing fun.
In this tutorial, we use Procreate, standard brushes, and these glitter brushes to add texture and a shimmering effect to our artwork.
Step 1 - Create the Guide
Let us begin creating a guide to make the diamond shape. In this step, you will need a pencil or light-colored medium to make your guide. Start your guides for the top of the diamond.
Looking at our example below, draw two large and small ovals that light up at the top.

Next, create the guide for the bottom of your diamond sketch by drawing a downward-pointing triangle.

Step 2 - Create the Shape of your Diamond
Continue using our sketching medium to start adding shape to your diamond. In addition to the sketching tool, you will need a ruler or use Procreate drawing guides to draw straight geometric shapes.
Shape the Top
In the smaller guide circle, draw eight short lines going around to create an octagon shape.

Next, on the bigger circle guide, draw triangular lines going around. Make sure you start at each corner of the octagon and draw slanted lines.

Lastly, along the large circle guide, draw straight lines between each of the triangle lines for shape.

Shape the Bottom
To finish your diamond sketch, add a shape to the bottom. Use your guide to determine the general height you want your diamond illustration to have. Draw a series of angled geometric lines like you would when drawing crystals.
For our sketch, we added shallow triangles (shown in red) and finalized the bottom triangle shape as we did in blue.

Step 3 - Define your Diamond Outline
Switch your sketching medium out for a darker and more permanent one. We will trace our rough sketches in our second step to make a clean diamond line art. You can use anything to make your outlines, like a pen, permanent marker, monoline brushes, or black color of your chosen medium.
Start drawing your outline by tracing around the outer sketch line of your diamond drawing. You can freehand your defining lines or use your ruler, depending on your art style.

Then, trace the inner geometric lines to complete your line diamond clipart and clean your drawing by removing your rough sketches.

Step 4 - Apply Color to your Diamond
If you want to add color to your diamond drawing, you can do so with colored pencils or markers. Start by coloring the diamond in multiple light blue shades, or use any color palette you like.
