At the end of every rainbow, good luck awaits! In today’s drawing guide, we are showing you how to draw a pot of gold, from basic sketches to making outlines and adding color. This easy St. Patrick's Day drawing exercise is perfect for the whole family to partake in. Create for events, parties, product packaging, fun t-shirts and more.

For your pot of gold illustration, you can use any drawing or painting supplies you have on hand. You can even use digital design programs like Procreate or DesignScape.
To illustrate our holiday clipart we are using Procreate. We have a great selection of Procreate texture brushes you can use to color and shade your pot of gold clipart.
Step 1 - Create Sketches of your Pot of Gold
Let’s begin our drawing lesson by making a couple of sketches first. For your rough sketches, you can use any erasable or light-colored medium, such as pencils, or pastel colors.
Create the Pot Shape
Roughly sketch a large oval to create the lower shape of your pot. Adjust the size of your oval according to how big you want to draw your pot of gold illustration.

Next, create the top opening of your pot. Looking at our example sketch below, draw two narrow ovals close together at the top, with more space at the bottom. This will create the edge or rim of our pot.

Add the Gold and Pot Handles
On both sides of your pot, roughly sketch oval-shaped handles on your pot as we did in our image below. At the top of your pot, inside the rim shape, add sketched gold coin clipart shapes. You can change your gold to look like coins or gold bars, or keep it minimal by drawing wavy lines from one edge to the other.

Step 2 - Line your Pot of Gold Sketch
With your rough sketches made, swap over to a dark or permanent medium to make your outlines. Start tracing over the sketch lines of your gold first, making sure to pay close attention to your sketch lines and which of them you want to outline.

Then, trace and line the rim of your pot and the handles on the sides. Make sure not to trace the pot rim that is going through your gold, only outline the bottom half.

Lastly, outline your pot shape. When you get close to the rim of your pot, create a slight curve to connect the bottom of your pot to the rim. Once you are done tracing your pot of gold drawing, clean up your drawing by removing the rest of the sketches.

Step 3 - Add Color to your Pot of Gold
In this step, get your color medium ready. For a minimal coloring style, add a dark gray to your pot and a golden yellow color to your gold. You can add any extra details to your pot of gold, like textured shading, drawing a shamrock on the pot, or creating a rainbow for your St Patrick's day clipart.

There you go, your pot of gold illustration is now ready. Think how lovely your clipart will look at the end of a rainbow or decorated with leprechauns for St. Patricks Day.
