In today’s beginner drawing tutorial, you are going to learn how to draw a volleyball. An exciting and fun sport, this design is great for events, boosting team spirit or a vacation. With our easy to follow step-by-step instructions, you can create this drawing in just a few minutes. It's a great way to create a quick illustration for your creative projects.

Use your clipart for sports projects, fun summer sublimations, and beach crafts. Nothing says Summer like a personalized t-shirt, beach towel or tumbler. Why not help out with school team sports and create some awesome gear?

Our drawing tutorials are incredibly flexible. You have the creative freedom to use whichever medium you are comfortable with. This includes mixed media, poster paint, markers, glitter pens and colored pencils. You can even use your digital apps and software like Procreate, Affinity and Photoshop.

To draw this volleyball, we are going to use the Procreate app. Looking for brushes to use with this drawing tutorial? We know you will love these Procreate brushes for shading and adding patterns.

Step 1 - Roughly Sketch Your Volleyball Shape

Using a sketching medium, like a pencil, we are going to create a rough sketch of our base shape. Sketch a big circle, either using a round object to outline, or using Quickshape in Procreate. We have sketched this in red below to make it easier to follow.

Inside the big circle, draw a smaller circle positioned more to the bottom right. This circle has been drawn in blue in the image below. These two circles will be the main shape of our volleyball, and the starting point of the stripe design.

Step 2 - Create the Stripes on Your Volleyball

In this step, we are going to create the stripes on the volleyball sketch. At the top and bottom of the smaller circle, sketch a horizontal line, as we did in our image below. Then, make a curved line from the edges of the horizontal lines, connecting to the bigger circle.

Now, we are going to add curved lines in the centers of the volleyball sections. Make two curved lines in the center (sketched in red below), two at the top and bottom going vertically (sketched in blue), and one curved line on the left side (sketched in green).

Step 3 - Outline Your Volleyball Rough Sketch

With the rough sketches complete, change over to a pen, marker or brush. We are going to permanently outline our volleyball sketch lines, excluding the top and bottom of the smaller circle. When you are done outlining, go ahead and clean up your drawing by removing your rough sketches.

Step 4 - Add Color to Your Volleyball

In this final step, we are going to add color to our volleyball drawing. You can use any set of colors you choose. Why not take a look at the tons of Procreate Palettes available on Design Bundles? For our volleyball, we used blue, purple, and pink to color the stripes.

Add color - Volleyball drawing

Add more depth to your design with texture, shading, logos and patterns. We used a brush from the Procreate set to add a bit of rough texture as part of the shading. Our drawing exercise is complete and we now have a very cool volleyball illustration.
