We are so egg-cited to share this tutorial on how to draw an egg.
In today’s drawing lesson, we are going to show you how to draw an egg in two ways. Their versatility and basic shapes make them quick and easy to illustrate. Whether you are a baker looking to add quirky packing stickers or prepping for Easter, this drawing exercise will enable you to create all types of egg clipart to add to your next project.

To sketch, outline, and color your illustration you can use any art medium or digital app you have available. We are using Procreate as well as these versatile Procreate brushes.
For the shading in our illustrations, we are using a Procreate texture brush to add more depth.
Hungry for more food drawing tutorials? We have drawing guides that you can use to create a feast of food illustrations, such as how to draw a banana or draw a carrot.
Step 1 - Make Rough Sketches of your Egg
For our egg drawing, we will draw a fried egg and a broken eggshell. To draw these two styles, create your rough sketches first with any sketching medium. You can use a pencil or medium that is light in color.
Sketch your Eggshell
Starting with the broken eggshell, draw the bottom half of an oval with the top open. At the top create the cracked shell opening by sketching jagged and wavy lines in the shape of a rough circle (shown in blue).

Sketch your Fried Egg
Make your fried egg drawing using two simple shapes. First, draw a big wavy shape to create the egg white section. Then, inside the egg white towards the top left, draw a circle for the yolk. Your yolk sketch should roughly be one-fourth the size of your egg white.

Step 2 - Outline your Rough Egg Sketches
With a lining medium, trace over your rough sketches. Use any dark or defining medium like a pen or marker as your outlining medium. Any of these Procreate inking brushes would work perfectly for your outlines.

Step 3 - Add Color to the Egg Drawing
You can add any color you want to your food clipart outlines with any color you have on hand or a ready-made Procreate color palette.
Add Color to your Eggshell
Use a reddish brown for the bottom outside of your eggshell, with a darker shade of brown add your textured shading. On the top broken shell area, add cream or off-white color. Use a darker color for additional shading in this area.

Apply Color to your Fried Egg
For the egg white, you can either leave it white or use the cream or off-white shade as we did above. Use yellow and orange for the yolk with a bit of texture shading.

Your eggcellent drawing is complete and ready for your projects. Now that you know how to draw an egg, why not create whole eggs for Easter, or add kawaii faces in Affinity designer? With so many creative possibilities we know you will have loads of fun creating your projects.
