Step 1 - Roughly Sketch your Candy Heart
In our first step, you will need a sketching medium. This can be a light color of your chosen medium or an erasable one like a pencil. In your drawing area, sketch a heart shape the size you want for your illustration.

Next, add dimension to your candy heart, by drawing a narrow edge on the side. Try to keep the edge line the same shape as your heart. You are welcome to add a wider edge to increase the depth of your heart shape.

Step 2 - Create your Candy Heart Outline
With the heart shape sketch complete, switch to an outlining medium to make your sketch lines defined. You can use something like a pen, marker, or dark-colored medium to trace your sketch lines. Any of these Procreate inking brushes will work perfectly for your heart outline.
Carefully trace your sketch lines to define them. Once you are done, if there are any sketches left, you can go ahead and remove them.

Step 3 - Apply your Candy Heart Color
With your outlines done, swap to a coloring medium. We would recommend using two shades of color to fill the heart and side dimensions. You can use whatever medium and colors you have available or those you want to use specifically. Below we have provided a color palette that you are welcome to use for your candy drawing.

Use your lightest color shade first to fill your main heart shape. Then, with a darker shade, color the side dimension to add depth to your candy hearts as we did below. You can even add patterns, or texture to your candy heart art by adding shading with texture brushes in procreate.

Step 4 - Add the Candy Heart Saying
Your candy hearts are almost done, all you need to add is a saying. With your sketching medium from before, roughly draw your saying on your candy hearts. In our example we used “Hug me”, but you can use any love quotes, funny sayings, etc.

Then, trace over your sketched saying with bright pink. You can even use darker shades of your heart color or make them black.

With this quick and easy candy heart illustration, you can create a whole bunch of candies in no time. Your sweet illustrations will look great in your future craft ideas.
Just think how lovely they would look as stickers or add them to a Valentine's Day card for someone special. If you enjoyed following this tutorial, then we know you’ll love our other free drawing tutorials.
