Easy See through Cut Out Text in Photoshop

Create a see-through cut out text design in Photoshop with these easy to follow steps.

In today's tutorial we will show you how to create a see-through cut out text in Photoshop. This is a great way to impact in your projects including logos, social media and websites.

You will need an image to use as “Background”. You are welcome to browse through the Commercial Use Photos on Design Bundles for options. Better yet, why not check out the Free Design resources section!

1 - In Photoshop, open the Image you chose as “Background”.

2 - Select the “Rectangle Tool” (U). In the “Top Menu” choose White as “Fill” color.

3 - Make a rectangle that covers almost all the length of the image and has approximately 1000 pixels in “Height”.

4 - Select the “Type Tool” (T), choose your font (we used Myriad Pro Bold Italic) and type your text. It should be 950 px tall and it should fill almost the entire length of the rectangle.

5 - You may need to change the “Tracking” value in the “Character Panel”.

6 - Double-click on top of the “Text Layer” thumbnail to open the “Layer Styles” and in the “Advanced Blending” tab choose “Shallow” as the “Knockout” option. Lower the “Fill Opacity” to 0%.

7 - Select both the “Text” and “Shape” Layers and “Group” them together by clicking on the small “Folder” icon at the bottom of the “Layers Panel”.

8 - Make sure that the “Background” Layer is selected and create a “New Gradient Map Adjustment Layer” in the “Adjustments Panel”. Click on top of the “Gradient” on the “Properties Panel” to open the “Gradient Editor” and choose one of the Presets or create a Custom Gradient yourself (we chose Violet, Orange).

9 - Select the “Background” Layer again, head back to the “Adjustments Panel” and create a “New Color Lookup Adjustment Layer”. Use “Crisp_Warm.look” as “3DLUT File”.
