How to Draw Fireworks

Let's start the celebration with this colorful and easy tutorial on how to draw fireworks. Create fireworks clipart for your library, parties, social get togethers or fun paper crafts. You can also make personalized sublimated t-shirts for New Years or Independence Day.

For this drawing tutorial, get your drawing supplies together. You can use any medium you have available, including digital options like Procreate. We are going to show you how to make your sketches, create outlines and add colors to your fireworks.

Step 1 - Sketch the Rocket for the Fireworks

In our first step, we are going to draw our rocket as a rough sketch. We recommend a medium that can be removed or covered up when adding color.

Begin your rocket sketch by drawing a triangle with a rounded base. Then, below the triangle, sketch a vertical rectangle that also has a rounded base.

At the bottom of the rectangle, in the center, draw a smaller rectangle for the stick that goes into the ground. Lastly, add a pattern design in the long rectangle shape. This can be any design like stripes, dots, or stars.

Step 2 - Sketch the Exploding Firework

Our rocket sketch is ready. Now we want to add the firework explosion, so we are going to show you two types of effects. Continue using your sketching medium to design your effect.

Create Fireworks in the Sky

Let’s sketch the fireworks display in the sky for our first effect. Simply make long and short curved lines going around a circle, while leaving the center hollow. Then, add a few short wavy lines extending out from the edges.

Add some final details, like dots or stars, between the lines to fill out your effect.

Create Fireworks on the Ground

Fireworks that have a sparkler effect on the ground can be drawn more minimally. Simply sketch a few long teardrop shapes going up like a fountain. At the top of each teardrop shape, you can add stars to complete the sparkler effect.

Step 3 - Outline Your Rough Sketches

You can use a permanent pen or marker to outline the rough sketch of your rocket in this step. Erase your rough sketches after outlining. We decided to keep the rough sketches of our sparkler effects, and cover them up when we add color.

Step 4 - Add Color to Your Fireworks

Choose any set of colors you want for your fireworks color palette. Design Bundles also has a bunch of Procreate color palettes to choose from. You can use shading but we went with solid colors for our clipart to create a vibrant image.
