How to Draw Ice Cream

In today's cool tutorial, we are going to show you how to draw ice cream.

Do you want to learn how to draw ice cream for your digital clipart? Then in today's drawing exercise, we will show you how to create this sweet treat for those hot Summer days. Use your dessert clipart for cute hand-drawn birthday cards, sublimated beach bags, or stickers for your shop.

With our drawing tutorials, you can use any type of drawing art media, this can be color pencils, oil paints, mixed media, watercolor pencils, or even digital apps like Procreate.

Make your ice cream illustration stand out with a selection of script fonts. Remember, you get commercial and personal use licenses so you can create for friends and family, and even sell.

Step 1 - Create the Shape of your Ice Cream

Use a sketching medium like a pencil and create a rough base shape. Starting at the bottom, create the cone shape by drawing an upside-down triangle.

Sketch the cone for your ice cream

On top of your triangle, sketch an oval for your first scoop and position it so that it overlaps the triangle. You can add more overlapping round shapes if you want. We added two round shapes for our delicious drawing.

Step 2 - Create the Shape of your Ice Cream

Let’s add some shape to our ice cream cone. Looking at our image below, we sketched a wavy pointed line below the top of our triangle. This is the typical design for a sugar cone. Then, on our triangle, we create the waffle cone detail by drawing overlapping lines at a slight angle.

Lastly, add a scalloped line at the bottom of each ice cream scoop. Then, round out the sides as we did in the image below.

Step 3 - Outline your Ice Cream Sketch

In this final step, we need to define the sketch with a permanent or black medium. As you outline your ice cream sketch, pay close attention to which sketch lines you want to include. Leave out any unwanted or overlapping lines that are not needed.

Once the outline is done, you can remove your rough sketches. If you use a light color medium and can't remove your sketches, you can cover them up in the next step with color.

Step 4 - Add Color to your Ice Cream

Get your color palette ready and choose what colors you want to use for your ice cream drawing. We chose brown for the cone, and three colors to add to the ice cream scoops.

Apply a base color to your ice cream drawing

As an optional step, add lighter shades to your base color for depth. We use the linen brush from this Procreate texture brush kit to add texture and shading to our drawing.
