Teachers are some of the hardest working people I've ever met! They are the ones responsible for helping mold everyone into the people they became.
The holidays are the perfect time to give them a little treat as a thank you for everything they do all year long. Most teachers love chocolate, I mean what's not to like?
They all will probably tell you they own a million mugs already since it's a common gift. So how about giving them a fun treat in an unconventional mug shaped gift box?!
I chose to make homemade hot chocolate truffles and marshmallows because I love baking, but you can very easily use store-bought hot chocolate ingredients for this fun gift.
Supplies Needed:
- 11" x 17" cardstock
- Sticker paper
- Hot Chocolate Ingredients
- Marshmallows
- Plastic bags
- Pom-pom
- Twine
- Patterned paper designs
- Electronic cutting machine
- Tape
First up: Make the mug box! I found this mug box design file in the Silhouette design store. Simply resize it to fit the 11" x 17" paper size.
Who wants a plain white mug? Not me! Let's add some fun patterns to the outside. Trace the squares using the rectangle tool to get the right size for the patterned stickers we're going to make next.
Make sure to delete that before you cut the mug file, we just needed the size.
Open up a new layout for your sticker paper and merge your pattern.
*I'm using the Nordic Christmas patterns for this project.
Resize it to fit the square we just measured for the mug using the scale tool
You'll need to add the cut lines so draw the square as well, center it easily using the center tool.
Add the registration marks in the page setup so you can cut the patterned stickers out cleanly.
Replicate the pattern 3 more times.
Add a tag at the bottom to attach to the handle of the mug. Also part of the Nordic Christmas set.
Add your message. I'm using the font "The Angel"
Remember in the new version of Silhouette Studio (4.1) you can easily access all of the glyph files. For the text to print you'll need to fill it with color or add line weight if you only want the outline.
Mirror the tag so you can make a double sided message.
Don't forget to add the cut lines by tracing it.
Lastly, make sure to turn off the cut settings for the font before you send it.
I also made a sticker with instructions to attach to the front of the mug.
I plan on making lots of these gifts so I filled the page after I resized the label to fit.
Again, don't forget about adding cut lines to the outside and turning off the cut lines to the font.
Time to get busy cutting everything out!
Add the stickers to the mug box before you assemble it.
Use an exacto blade to cut out the sticker that covers the holes where the handle attaches.
Attach the mug handle using tape.
To get nice clean folds, use your application tool and firmly apply pressure as you work folding on the dotted lines.
Assemble the box. I used a little bit of tape to secure it too.
Assemble the tag as well.
Now to add the treats!
I simply cut the top zipper portion of a sandwich bag off to hold the chocolate truffles and marshmallows, then tie it up using the twine.
Add the treats to the box. I also made a little white pom-pom and attached it to the marshmallow bag. I think it looks like a fun fluffy marshmallow sticking out of the "mug".
Who wouldn't be excited to get a fun little treat like this!?!
Go ahead and make a few! Use different patterns and have fun.
This doesn't have to only be a gift for teachers! Neighbors, friends, co-workers, anyone in your life you're thankful for will enjoy this yummy treat.
