Selling with fonts: commercial use by plan
Commercial use means using a font in something you sell or in work for a business. On Font Bundles, Unlimited ($24.99 a month or $239.90 a year) comes with the Premium license and POD license, which cover selling what you make, print on demand, client work and logos within the license terms. The Personal license on Hobbyist does not cover commercial use.
Selling products you make, on Etsy or anywhere else
On Unlimited you can make and sell any number of finished physical goods, such as shirts, mugs, signs and stickers, made by you on your own equipment. It is the same wherever you sell: an Etsy shop, your own website, or a craft fair.
Hobbyist is for personal projects and gifts, so it does not cover selling, or donating items where your brand gets recognition.
Print on demand
The POD license on Unlimited lets you upload or send designs as-is to print-on-demand platforms, outside printers or manufacturers, who then make finished goods for you.
For print on demand on Business, the Corporate license in full sets out the terms.
Client work
Designs for clients are covered when the fonts and graphics become part of a new design. Purchased elements need to be edited and combined with other elements so they are only one part of an original layout, which the license calls a transformative work.
Flatten the text before you send artwork to a client, so they receive the finished design and not the font.
Logos and branding
You can use a font in a company or personal logo. Flatten the text into vector or raster artwork before it goes to anyone else. A logo made this way can be registered as a trademark, but the font itself cannot be registered or claimed.
Graphics in a logo need to be transformed, unless the product is sold for as-is logo use, such as a logo kit.
Websites, apps and video
Unlimited allows web font use up to 100,000 page views a month, and embedding fonts in apps and e-books. The Corporate license on Business allows unlimited web font page views on company-owned sites and unlimited views across broadcast projects.
What no plan allows
No plan lets you resell, give away, or redistribute the raw font or design file.
Font characters also cannot be turned into standalone alphabet sets, such as SVG, PNG or embroidery alphabets, for customers to assemble their own words. Fonts go into finished words or phrases.
